Mobiles have come a long way, baby!

Mobiles aren't just for the crib anymore - they have become works of art that are beautiful to display for children of all ages (even grown-up aged!) So hang a mobile in your child's room and I guarantee he or she will think it is quite wonderful!

There are so many gorgeous mobiles that I'd like to show here, but I better stick with just a few of my favorites.

Cookie Magazine has an article about mobiles, HERE, and showcases 6 really cute ones. My favorite is this tree branch mobile (I'm loving all things "tree branch" right now, can't say for sure why!)

From Penelope Mobiles I like this one because the characters are cute from eye-level and then underneath there are the black and white patterns for baby to enjoy.

How about some hand-crafted mobiles!

From re-nest The "crystals" on these mobiles/decorations are actually rock candy! Just don't tell the kids or the mobile would somehow disappear :)

There are lots of really cute mobiles (and so much more) at etsy. If you haven't checked it out, do so now!

This adorable mobile idea comes from nienie dialogues blog via cookie

Addition: I just saw that imprintables, a fabulous blog, had a recent posting about mobiles!

These lanterns make a cute "mobile" (they are pretty hung over a crib/bed, so that counts!) I LOVE using lanterns and just for the record, I think they are wonderful for all occasions and in any room!

A few more glorious mobile ideas I've had saved for awhile. I apologize for not crediting where they come from.

From TotStnob - made from recycled magazines!!! Beautiful

This is the mobile I just made for my baby, Cali. (It cost all of $2.00 to make!) You will see in the picture that I currently have to live with white walls. The horror! We recently moved from our big, beautiful, colorful, and inexpensive home in Arizona to a tiny, dumpy rental house in California - where I'm not allowed to paint on the walls! I will just have to be content to paint for other people until we are able to buy me some walls to paint!

I have to include this picture - it is a picture of the mobile that hung over my own crib, 30-something years ago. I guess it can be considered a "vintage" piece! I LOVE that my ever-sentimental Mom saved the mobile for me. I used in my baby's nursery (2 different kids) before it was too fragile to hang safely. (It is now it storage for one of my daughters to have when she is a Mom.)

Awesome Awnings

I love awnings! They are pretty prevalent in my neighborhood of 50's era homes, especially cute metal striped awnings in pastel colors. Most of those I see are pretty worn and I'm so tempted to ask home owners if they will let me rescue them. What would I do with them? I would love to place them on the outside of my home (even if it is a rental - they would move with me of coarse!) I think they would even be really great in a child's space. They could turn a room into a Parisian cafe or a retro bungalow. I keep hoping to see some discarded awnings on the side of the road waiting for me to discover them, but haven't gotten lucky yet. Maybe those fortunate awning-windowed-homeowners love them too!

Here are some pics of awnings in interior spaces!

Bella Seven The decorative paint treatment above the bed (not painted by me) looks like an awning!

Instructions for construction of this awning come from HGTV

This little playhouse is just about the cutest thing. I can imagine expanding on the idea and turning an entire room into a little pastry shoppe. You would have to include the awning - over the closet, or window, or Door! If you happen to live in the Twin Cities area, you could be lucky enough to hire the wonderfully talented team at Morgan Evan-Thorne who painted this mural.

From Kara's Party Ideas via Party Wishes
This awning is just a painted piece of core board hung with fishing line! Clever!

From Full House. I'm hoping to get instructions on how this awning was crafted. I think it is so fun. It looks like it is in a kitchen. I want to make one for my patio.

Recognize this lady from HGTV? This awning isn't made from the loveliest of fabrics, but the design is good, and instructions on how to make it can be found HERE.

This is a professionally made window awning done by Palmetto Window Designs

This cafe awning mural is actually a "Wallies" mural (stick-ups or wallpaper murals) that are mass- produced. They can be purchased at many places, like Wall Decor Shop

The bookcases along side the window makes the construction of this awning seem pretty easy. What a great way to add some coziness to the window seat. From BHG

This fabulous room was created by a blogger at Design Dazzle. A contractor built this awning for her from her own design. The awning is the crowning touch to this room, I think!

Pottery Barn

Obviously, this isn't a kid's room (maybe in their dreams!), but this awning is super cute and I had to add it here!

The Circus is in Town!

For years I have longed for a circus-loving client to come along and pay me to transform their child's room into a big circus tent full of clowns, animals, and balloons! What fun that would be! All I have painted that is circus-y is this canvas that I donated for an auction to benefit my child's school PTA.

Until the day when that elusive client shows up, I will have to be content looking at fun pictures like these:

How about a garland to add some circus fun to a room? Perfect!

This garland, from the sweet nursery of Abbey Goes Design Scouting, looks like it is painted on the wall. Love it.

Garlands are pretty easy to make...

Instructions on how to make this garland comes from KIDDLEY.com. They made it for a Christmas Tree, but I think the colors are perfect for a circus room too!

Or, you could purchase some really cute ones at Etsy, like these:

(Have I mentioned my LOVE for garlands?) They are probably what drives my love for a circus theme!
